In conversation with Emése from AllergyCertified

Have you discovered our 0% products yet? They all have the AllergyCertified quality mark. This way you can be sure that they are kind to the skin. Emése Inèz Hogestijn works for AllergyCertified and tells us all about the power of this quality mark.

0% hand soap, detergent and shower gel

In February 2025, we launched our 0% product line . Hand soap, shower gel and detergent without dyes and perfume. And yes, that took some getting used to, because our soapies are known for their delicious scents. But in our quest to create a brand that is as sustainable and inclusive as possible, a 0% line could not be missed. Because let's be honest: perfume is not that good for the planet and also not for the skin. All our 0% products have the AllergyCertified quality mark and are designed in such a way that everyone can use them safely.”

What is AllergyCertified?

Emése – AllergyCertified Benelux: “AllergyCertified was founded in Denmark over ten years ago with the mission to develop a recognizable quality mark for skin-friendly products. We approve everything that comes into contact with the skin: from skincare products and detergent to mattresses, toys and clothing. We do this by critically examining the product composition. The quality mark helps consumers to make a conscious choice for the supermarket shelf more easily. You no longer have to read the entire list of ingredients to find out whether the product is safe for the skin.”

Why is such a quality mark important?

“More than 25% of the European (adult) population suffers from a contact allergy. This can be caused by prolonged exposure to a specific allergen, such as perfume. Once you have a contact allergy, you can’t get rid of it. The good news is: you can prevent this allergy by minimizing exposure to allergens. It is one of the few allergies that is not genetically determined. As a quality mark, we want to make consumers aware of the impact of allergens on your skin. By choosing a product with an AllergyCertified quality mark, you can be sure that it is skin-friendly.”

How did the collaboration with Marcel's Green Soap come about?

“Marcel's Green Soap is a leader in the field of washing, cleaning and care products with attention to the planet. Together with Eefje Maquiné - product developer at Marcel's Green Soap - we sat down to see if we could develop a product line without perfume and dye. That started with hand soap, after all, you wash your hands several times a day. If you can prevent this exposure to perfume by using a 0% hand soap, that is already a gain. And the same applies to shower gel and detergent. Your skin comes into contact with these often and a lot. With the 0% products from Marcel's Green Soap we help the consumer to reduce contact with perfume and dye in their daily routine.”

Who are the products with the AllergyCertified quality mark intended for?

“It is often thought that 0% products are mainly intended for people with sensitive skin. That is not the case. Because as mentioned, anyone can develop a contact allergy at any time due to prolonged exposure to certain allergens. The products with the AllergyCertified quality mark are also for consumers who consciously choose less perfume, dyes and other allergens. And of course, the products with the quality mark are also suitable for children. The natural skin barrier of children does not yet work as well as that of adults, which makes the skin more sensitive. Children therefore develop a contact allergy more easily. The 0% products from Marcel's Green Soap can therefore be used by young and old, regardless of whether or not you have sensitive skin.”
