At Marcel's Green Soap, we are taking steps to certify an increasing number of our products with the EU Ecolabel, the official environmental label of the European Union. This independent label sets strict requirements for ingredients, production, packaging, and environmental impact. This is how we make our environmental ambitions concrete and verifiable.
Why the EU Ecolabel?
We can say a lot about our products. But we prefer to also show what our claims are based on. That is why we choose the EU Ecolabel: an independent European environmental label with strict requirements for a product's entire life cycle. Our products are assessed by an independent party. This ensures our environmental claims are not just words, but are independently substantiated.What is the EU Ecolabel?
The EU Ecolabel is the official environmental label of the European Union. A product only receives the label if it meets strict, independently verified environmental criteria. These criteria take into account the environmental impact throughout a product's life cycle, for example in the areas of raw materials, ingredients, packaging, and use. In the Netherlands, this is assessed by SMK, the competent body for EU Ecolabel certification.
Our path forward
We are not there yet, but we are well on our way. At the beginning of 2026, 10% of our range had the EU Ecolabel. We hope to reach 50% by October, and we are working toward approximately 70% by the end of this year. For products that are not yet certified, we substantiate our impact with life cycle assessments (LCAs) in accordance with internationally recognized ISO guidelines.This means we do not wait until a product is certified to take a critical look at our impact. On the contrary. We continue to improve our formulas, packaging, and processes. Step by step. Product by product.
Because as far as we are concerned, sustainability is not about being perfect. It is about keeping moving in the green direction. Even if the route sometimes takes a little longer than planned.
Where are we now?
We believe it is important to be transparent about our progress. That is why we are sharing the current status of our range below:

Certification processes are currently underway for more than 44 products. These include all-purpose cleaners, dish soaps, hand soaps, shower gels, and shampoos.

Products such as fabric softeners, laundry perfumes, toilet blocks, and wipes therefore currently fall outside the scope of the label.
