To answer that question, let's take a quick trip to our soap lab for a chemistry lesson. Pay close attention, okay? Hand soap – and any other type of soap, for that matter – enables oil to mix with water. And yes, that's quite remarkable, considering we all know that water and oil don't naturally blend! Soap essentially acts like a magnet: one part of the soap molecule repels water and attaches to oils on the skin (most dirt is greasy or oil-based), while the other part does the opposite and bonds with water. This allows the oil to mix with water, effectively rinsing away the dirt on your hands. Are you still with me? So, this is why your hands feel so clean after using hand soap.
