Vast versus vloeibaar: wat is het verschil?

Solid vs liquid: what's the difference?

Are you a fan of our soap bars? Or do you prefer to use the liquid version anyway? Solid versus liquid soap: what are the pros and cons when it comes to ease of use and durability.

What is the difference between solid and liquid soap?

Solid soap is a compact, hard soap, also called a soap bar or soap bar. At Marcel's Green Soap we have shampoo bars, conditioner bars, body bars and hand soap bars in various scents. Unlike liquid soap, no water is added to a soap bar. This makes it compact - handy for travelling! - and very efficient to use. Moreover, our soap bars feel wonderfully soft thanks to the addition of extra vegetable glycerine.

Liquid soap comes in a bottle and is - yes - liquid. Using a pump or flip-top cap, you dispense the soap and then wash your hands, hair or skin with it. The soap is easy to spread and rinse off.

Ease of use

It is sometimes said that using a soap bar takes some getting used to. When you are soaping up your hair with a shampoo bar, it slips out of your hands! And when you forget to store it in a dry place, it slowly “melts” away. So here's a quick instruction (for our shampoo bar): wet your hair well and rub the bar between your hands for a while, so it will foam. Then rub the bar over your hair - from roots to ends - and set the bar aside. Massage the shampoo into your hair and rinse well. Finally, it is important to store your bar in a dry place after your shower session, for example in a soap dish or tin. In any case, the soap bar should be allowed to dry well. Liquid soap is the most commonly used variety of soap. It is - like a soap bar - easy to dispense and spreads well. Unlike a soap bar, you can just leave the bottle in the shower.

Sustainability

A soap bar is often seen as the most sustainable soap. And that's true, because producing a soap bar requires much less water and energy. In addition, a bar is compact, so less freight traffic is needed and you also use it for three times as long as a bottle of liquid soap. Last but not least: our soap bars are packed in recyclable packaging.

Yet our liquid variant has also been developed with the planet in mind. This is because our liquid soapies are all packed in recycled and recyclable packaging. When you dispose the bottle in your plastic waste after use, it can simply be recycled again. Better still, refill the empty bottle with our refills. Just like our soap bars, refills take up less space and you save a lot of freight and plastic compared to a new bottle. Want to experience how easy refilling is? Try a starter kit.
