Is your place under the sun ready for spring yet? In this blog, we give you tips on how to clean your (teak) wooden, aluminium or plastic garden furniture. Hint: you won't need the pressure washer.
Do's and don'ts for cleaning your garden furniture
First some do's and don'ts before cleaning your garden furniture. It is better to leave the pressure washer in the shed. It might make your furniture cleaner, but it won't make it prettier. The hard jet affects the material of your garden furniture and that porous surface will make green deposits stick better.
Cleaning (teak) wooden garden furniture
If you maintain your wooden garden furniture properly, it will last for decades - very sustainable! It is best to store it in a sheltered place during the winter, such as in a (dry) shed or under a waterproof cover. However, you cannot avoid the fact that your wooden garden furniture needs to be cleaned every now and then. Sun and rain leave their mark and over time (teak) wooden furniture 'greys' due to the influence of the weather. This is how you clean your wooden garden furniture:
1. Make a soapy solution of lukewarm water and a dash of our all-purpose cleaner or a scoop of green soap.
2. Dip a soft brush in the soapy water and then brush your garden furniture clean – along the grain of the wood!
3. After cleaning, rinse the garden furniture thoroughly with clean water and let it dry in the sun.
Tip! You can simply leave wooden garden furniture outside 'au naturel'. Do you want to protect it extra? Then use a natural oil. The disadvantage is that you have to oil the furniture again every year.
Cleaning plastic or aluminum garden furniture
For cleaning plastic or aluminum garden furniture you can also use Marcel's Green Soap all-purpose cleaner. This is at least 95% easily biodegradable and has a microplastic-free formula. Green soap or soda also work well to clean your plastic or aluminium garden furniture. Especially white garden furniture (with green tarnish) perks up nicely from a soapy soda with some green soap.
Enjoy your (clean) spot in the sun!
