Badkamerspiegel schoonmaken in 3 stappen

How to clean a bathroom mirror in 3 steps

Cleaning the bathroom mirror: you can buy all kinds of expensive cleaners for this, but there is no need for that. You can clean dull stains from toothpaste, splashes, fingers or a haze of moisture in no time using products that you probably already have at home.

Why does a bathroom mirror get dirty so quickly?

You use the mirror daily, usually right after showering or brushing your teeth. This quickly causes condensation, toothpaste splatters and dirt to accumulate. Add some greasy fingers or hairspray to that, and you soon have a mirror full of stains. Regular cleaning prevents this, and extends the life of the mirror coating.

How to clean a bathroom mirror

Below you will find a simple step-by-step plan with different cleaning options. Choose what works for you or what resources you have at home.

Step 1: Remove dust and dry dirt

Use a dry, soft microfiber cloth to remove dust and loose dirt. This will prevent you from smearing the dirt later.

Step 2: Choose your cleaning agent

You can choose from different methods:

  • Natural vinegar + water: Mix 1 part vinegar and 1 part water in a spray bottle. Spray on the mirror, let it soak in and wipe dry with a clean microfiber cloth.
  • Soda solution: 1 tablespoon of soda to 1 liter of warm water. Useful if there are also greasy residues.
  • Shaving foam: An unexpected but effective option. Spread a small amount of shaving foam (not gel) over the mirror and rub it with a soft cloth. It leaves a thin layer that prevents fogging. Win-win!

Step 3: Rub dry and streak-free

Use a dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the mirror without streaks. Microfiber works best for this.

Bonus: Mirror that no longer fogs up?

As promised, shaving foam is your secret weapon. By spreading a thin layer over the mirror and buffing it out thoroughly, you create a protective layer that prevents condensation from adhering. Ideal if you want to blow-dry your hair or shave right after showering without waiting for the mirror to come into view again.

Additional tips

  • Do not use scouring pads or aggressive agents — they will damage the mirror coating.
  • Regular cleaning prevents dirt from building up.
  • Ventilate well after showering to reduce condensation and mold on or around the mirror.
  • Prefer natural? Lemon juice mixed with water also works degreasing and leaves a fresh scent.

Little effort, big difference

Cleaning your bathroom mirror doesn’t have to be difficult. With a simple cleaning product, a bit of shaving foam or a fine glass cleaner, you’ll have a shiny, streak-free mirror in no time. And if you do it right, it will also fog up less quickly. A small effort, a big difference!
