Why clean your hairbrush?
Did you know that your hairbrush doesn't just collect loose hair? Dust, skin flakes and product residues also get stuck in it. Ugh! This buildup can reduce the effectiveness of your brush and contribute to the spread of bacteria. By regularly cleaning your hairbrush you prevent wear and damage, which can be caused by the accumulation of hair and product residue. A clean hairbrush lasts a lot longer. This way you don't have to buy a new hairbrush as often. Regular cleaning is therefore essential for both hygiene and sustainability. Win win!Step 1: Remove loose hair
Start by removing all loose hair. You can use a comb or the tip of scissors for this. Gently pull on the bristles to remove them from the brush. Try to collect as much hair as possible at once to prevent them from ending up elsewhere in the house.
Step 2: Pre-treatment of the brush
If there is a lot of product residue in the brush, use a small amount of long-lasting all-purpose cleaner (we used our Lavender & Rosemary variant) to treat the brush first. Spraying once or twice is enough. Let this sit for a while to loosen the residue.
Step 3: Deep cleaning
Fill a bowl with warm water and add a small amount of soap or shampoo. Of course we prefer to use biodegradable products made without harmful ingredients, which is why we use our Vanilla & Christmas Blossom Shampoo for this. Smells delicious too! Let the brush soak for half an hour. Use an old toothbrush to scrub between the bristles and remove any remaining debris.Step 4: Rinse and dry
Rinse the brush well under running water to remove all soap residue. Shake out excess water and let the brush dry with the bristles pointing downwards to prevent water from collecting in the handle. Marcel's tip: do not use a dryer or other heat sources for this, as this can damage the bristles of your brush.Step 5: Maintenance and prevention
Prevention is better than cure! To keep your brush clean for longer, consider using less styling products or brushing your hair less often when it is wet, as this can leave more residue. And... next time maybe start a little earlier. A weekly cleaning in between can do wonders to prevent build-up and make your brush last longer.
